What is the Legal Services Network? The Connecticut Legal Services Network is a collaboration of five nonprofit legal aid agencies that provide civil legal aid to low-income individuals and families. Part of the funding for these programs comes from the Legal Services Corporation (LSC), an agency created by the federal government to fund state legal aid agencies. The Legal Services Network also comes from local agencies such as the United Way and special trusts established by local bar associations. The members of this network in Connecticut are: What are legal clinics? Each of Connecticut`s three law schools has a legal clinic that provides legal assistance to people who cannot afford a lawyer. Under the Connecticut Student Rules of Practice, law students are permitted to represent clients in civil and criminal matters before all courts and administrative authorities within the jurisdiction. The clinics are: Most of our legal services are only available to people whose household income is 125% or less than or below the federal poverty line.
If you are 60 years of age or older and think your income is higher, you can contact the nearest legal aid office to find out if you are eligible for legal advice. The CBA maintains a directory of TC organizations that can provide free or discounted legal services to low- or zero-income individuals or from underserved populations. We encourage the public to contact these organizations directly to find out if they are eligible for services. The Commercial and Bankruptcy Department has established a group of volunteer lawyers to represent needy and qualified persons or married spouses on a pro bono basis in Chapter 7 bankruptcy, litigation and litigation cases.
