Often a certain rule is introduced mainly in Leviticus, and sometimes in numbers, with the words “This is the law.” The law is often associated with a book. In most cases, what is written or found in the book are the prescriptions of the law. The emphasis on doing what the law commands, keeping it, and obeying what the Lord has commanded is quite extraordinary. When the word Torah appears in the Old Testament, the emphasis is not on teaching doctrine, as if the word of God`s work of salvation were repeated for His people. Quite the contrary. The term Torah focuses on what God requires of His people: His commandments, statutes, and laws. The term “law” was later used in the New Testament for all aspects of the body of law, while in the Old Testament we have several Hebrew words for our English “law” that cover the variety of meanings ranging from laws, statutes, and commandments to instructions or teachings. The Greek and English words do not classify them. The word “law” is used very generally in the New Testament to cover a variety of meanings that differ from Old Testament Hebrew. The word in Greek is NOMOS, which, according to the Expository de Vine dictionary, is “principally that which is assigned, hence the custom, custom or by law to divide; Nomos became the established name for the law as promulgated by the state and established as the standard for the administration of justice.

In the New Testament it is generally used to express a general principle concerning the law. We have therefore defined the word as a rule or set of rules that prescribes or prohibits our actions from conforming to a certain order or pattern of behavior. The “Law of God” has many aspects, and there are a variety of words used in the Hebrew text for the different categories of His Law that identify their classification. 2 Chronicles 6:16 Wherefore, O Yahweh, God of Israel, keep with your servant David, my father, what you promised him, saying, It will not disappoint a man in my eyes to sit on the throne of Israel; But so that your children may be aware of how they are walking in my law as you have walked before me. 12:1 And it came to pass that when Rehoboam had established the kingdom and had fortified himself, he left with him the law of Yahweh and all Israel. 14:4 And commanded Judah to seek Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and to make the law and the commandment. 15:3 Israel was long without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law. 17:9 And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of Yahweh with them, and passed through all the cities of Judah, instructing the people.

17:10 And the fear of Yahweh fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, so that they did not make war on Jehoshaphat. 19:10 And whatever cause shall befall you from your brethren who dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between the law and the commandments, the statutes and the judgments, you will even warn them that they do not offend Yahweh, and so will come wrath upon you and your brethren; It is, and you will not transgress. 23:18 And Joiah also named the offices of the house of Yahweh by the hand of the priests, the Levites, which David had distributed in the house of Yahweh, to offer the burnt offerings of Yahweh, as it is written in the law of Moses, with joy and song, as it had been appointed by David. 25:4 And he did not kill their children, but he did what is written in the law in the book of Moses, where Yahweh commanded, saying, The fathers shall not die for the children, and the children shall not die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin. 30:16 And they stood in their place according to their way, according to the law of the man of God: the priests sprinkled the blood which they received from the hand of the Levites. 31:3 And he also designated his king`s share for burnt offerings, that is, for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the Sabbaths, and for the new months, and for the established feasts, as it is written in the law of Yahweh.
